The Creative Genes Exhibition
Opening December 3, 2025 at Hicks Art Center
Bucks County Community College is pleased to announce The Creative Genes, an exhibition of historic and contemporary artworks and writing from personal collections, the Moravian Archives, the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art.(PFFCAAA) and The Volta Center for Writing Arts. The exhibition will be on view from December 3, 2025 to February 28, 2026, with an opening reception held on December 3rd from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Hicks Art Center Gallery.
In coordination with the Creative Genes Exhibit, Volta Center for Writing Arts recently held a workshop, Map the Headwaters of your Creativity.
In this writing workshop, we explored the sources that guide us on our creative journeys. Inside each of us are swirling currents of inspiration. Streams of experience flowed from headwaters – whether rough or smooth, deeply-branched, or straight and quick, from influences historical and ancestral or newly discovered. We left the workshop with renewed understanding of what moves us to create, giving rise to ideas and drafts that will deepen future writing.
This workshop was a precursor to The Creative Genes, an exhibition pairing the work of artists linked by family, opening on December 3rd at the Hicks Gallery on the BCCC Newtown campus. Some of the writing generated in the workshop will be featured at the opening reception.
The exhibition will feature an array of works that explore creativity between siblings and family members. Hicks Art Center Gallery is honored to collaborate with the Moravian Archives, PFFCAA and Volta Center for Writing Arts and all the artists in the exhibition to bring this important cultural and historical exhibition to the public. Participating visual artists include Friedrich Renatus Früauff, Clara Früauff, Bernadette McBride, Constance McBride, Allison Saar, Betye Saar, Lezley Saar, Carl Wagner and Kenoka Wagner.
Gallery hours Tuesday - Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturdays Noon - 4 p.m.
